Healthy Aging Month

September is Healthy Aging Month.  Let this be a time to focus attention on the protection of health and well-being during the process of aging.

Take these steps to stay healthy and independent as you age:

  • Keep your body and mind active.

  • Choose healthy foods.

As we age our bodies need fewer calories but just as many nutrients, making it increasingly important to consume nutrient-dense, whole foods. These foods pack a lot of vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that your body needs into a small number of calories.

It’s never too late to make healthy changes in your life!

  • Get enough sleep.

  • Talk to your doctor about health concerns.​

  • Take fall precautions.

  • Stay connected.

Check out the Byrdstown Senior Center, whose daily mission is to provide activities, opportunities, and services for the senior population of Pickett County and to promote and improve personal independence, self-sufficiency, health, and overall quality of life.
